Shimla, April 14 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, Sukhvinder Sukhu, on Monday, marked the beginning of a 1 MW solar energy facility at Dhanwas in the secluded Pangi Valley within Chamba district.
This initiative, with an estimated expenditure of Rs 10.50 crore, is targeted for completion before November.
The Chief Minister instructed officials to hasten the development process and guarantee the timely establishment of this crucial infrastructure.
Upon becoming operational, the solar plant will ensure a consistent power supply to all 19 Panchayats of Pangi Valley, even amidst the severe winter periods.
The project also encompasses a 500-kilowatt battery storage system to deliver power during nighttime, effectively addressing load shedding and enhancing the area's electricity distribution network.
Covering an area of 2.2 hectares, the facility will consist of 2,400 solar panels focused on clean energy production.
The Chief Minister highlighted the government’s dedicated initiatives to leverage renewable energy to elevate living standards in remote and isolated regions.
He reaffirmed the state’s vow to convert Himachal Pradesh into a Green Energy State by March 2026.
He stated, “This project embodies our commitment to fostering green energy and ensuring dependable infrastructure in the tribal and remote sectors of Himachal Pradesh.”
The Chief Minister also allocated Rs 25 lakh each for the construction of four Mahila Mandal Bhawans in Karyas panchayat and Rs one lakh each for acquiring essential equipment.
Additionally, he announced Rs 1 crore for the development of a temple road in the panchayat. For the first time in the history of Himachal Pradesh, the state-level Himachal Day celebrations will take place in the remote Pangi Valley of Chamba district on Tuesday.
The festivities in Killar, the valley's headquarters, have generated a wave of enthusiasm and celebration among the local populace.
Residents have warmly embraced the initiative, applauding Chief Minister Sukhvinder Sukhu's decision to host the celebration in this tribal region.
An official mentioned that since assuming office, the government led by Sukhu has demonstrated a strong commitment to the welfare of tribal communities. The inaugural Himachal Day celebration under his leadership was conducted in Kaza of Spiti Valley, where the Chief Minister interacted deeply with local customs and challenges.
Not accessible year-round by road, the scenic Pangi Valley remains isolated from the outside world for over six months annually due to heavy snowfall.
This beautiful region is primarily inhabited by Gaddis, who are predominantly pastoralists and cultivate barley, potatoes, and peas, alongside off-season vegetables and rare flowers.
The climatic conditions in this district are severe, as much of the land is classified as a cold desert, with temperatures plummeting below minus 20 degrees Celsius in winter. Many locals must trek over 10 km to reach the nearest health center.
