Shimla, March 6 (NationPress) Students applying for admission to Himachal Pradesh University will now be mandated to sign an anti-drug pledge, announced state Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla during the university's 35th court meeting held on Thursday.

Furthermore, he urged the university administration to enhance drug awareness among parents through letters and emails. Governor Shukla underscored the critical importance of united efforts to restore the university's prestige and emphasized the immediate need to tackle the issue of drug abuse at the college level.

In the course of the meeting, the Governor sanctioned the annual reports for the years 2021-22 and 2022-23, alongside the annual accounts for 2018-19.

Expressing concern regarding the absence of multiple members during the court meeting, he instructed that his dissatisfaction be communicated to the relevant individuals.

The Governor reaffirmed that the primary role of the university court is to formulate comprehensive policies and programs for the institution and to propose standards and suggestions aimed at ensuring the university's growth and advancement.

He expressed optimism that the recommendations made by the members would greatly contribute to the university's development.

Governor Shukla engaged in a thorough discussion covering various topics, including quality education and innovation, moral education and Indian culture, a drug-free Himachal, employment-oriented education and entrepreneurship, environmental preservation, sustainable development, digital education and technological empowerment, research and innovation, and sports and physical education.

Additionally, he directed the university administration to present annual reports and prepare annual accounts in a timely manner.

Earlier, Vice-Chancellor S.P. Bansal provided the Governor with an overview of the university's developmental initiatives, new programs, and achievements.

He also informed the Governor that the university currently accommodates around 8,000 campus-based students and approximately 1,300 PhD scholars.

Moreover, he noted that the university has successfully mobilized resources totaling approximately Rs 123 crore from various sources and is actively engaged in research and the implementation of the National Education Policy.
