Key Takeaways
Shimla, March 18 (NationPress) In an effort to uphold decorum and modesty within the workplace, the Himachal Pradesh government, led by the Congress party, has introduced new directives for its personnel concerning office attire and online behavior, explicitly prohibiting jeans and T-shirts.
Employees are also disallowed from commenting on government initiatives via social media.
The newly established guidelines mandate that all government staff wear formal, clean, and modest clothing in neutral tones. Casual or party attire is strictly forbidden in office premises and during court appearances.
The government has noted instances of employees donning casual outfits and utilizing personal social media accounts to discuss government programs or promote products.
For male staff members, the dress code stipulates wearing shirts with trousers or pants, paired with shoes or sandals.
Female employees must opt for sarees, formal suits, salwar suits, churidars, kurtas with dupatta, or trouser pants with shirts, along with chappals, sandals, or shoes.
The government highlighted that employee attire should demonstrate a sense of decorum, decency, and professionalism.
Furthermore, clear guidelines have been issued regarding the use of social media by employees.
Staff members have been advised against voicing opinions on government policies or initiatives through personal accounts and are discouraged from making political or religious comments on public forums, blogs, or other online platforms.
The notification cautioned that breaches of either the dress code or social media policies may lead to disciplinary measures against the responsible officials.
The government stated that these regulations aim to preserve the integrity and credibility of public service and to foster a professional working environment.
Referring to an official communication dated August 3, 2017, the government indicated that despite earlier instructions, many employees continue to disregard these guidelines.
“This enforcement of the dress code serves as a reaffirmation of the government’s position,” the authorities remarked.
