Patna, Jan 26 (NationPress) Anshuman Sinha, son of the iconic folk artist Swar Kokila Late Sharda Sinha, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Union government for awarding the Padma Vibhushan to his mother, describing the honor as a monumental occasion for their entire family.
“This award signifies a monumental occasion for our family,” Sinha shared with IANS.
On the eve of Republic Day, President Droupadi Murmu posthumously awarded India’s second-highest civilian honor, the Padma Vibhushan, to the legendary folk singer Sharda Sinha for her contributions to the realm of folk music.
“This is a moment of immense pride. It reflects pride for my family, our state, and the entire country. Receiving the highest civilian accolades in the domain of folk music is a historic achievement. My family and I extend our sincere thanks to the Union government for this recognition,” Sinha remarked.
He emphasized that the Union government has honored folk culture, folk songs, and cherished traditions, which he considers a significant achievement.
“Had my mother been alive today, this day would have unfolded quite differently. She would have been singing joyfully for everyone. We deeply miss her. If my father were present, he would have adorned our home in celebration, inviting everyone to share in the joy. We long for those moments. However, with this recognition, the government has honored her legacy, marking a time of immense joy and pride for us,” he stated.
Anshuman Sinha also reflected on Sharda Sinha’s past accolades and her extraordinary journey.
“My mother was awarded the Padma Shri in 1991. At that time, we were young and preoccupied with studies, unaware of the true significance of her accolades. In 2018, she received the Padma Bhushan. Now, in 2025, being honored with the Padma Vibhushan after such a long journey is not only a recognition of her work but also a tribute to her efforts in showcasing Bihar’s folk culture on a global platform,” he noted.
He added that this recognition stands as a testament to the affection of the people and the support from the government.
When queried about the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian award, Anshuman replied with hope.
“I firmly believe that she is and will always be a gem of India. The Bharat Ratna is a process that will unfold in due time. What truly matters is that she is already a gem of India,” he said.
