New Delhi, July 20 (NationPress) Union Home Minister Amit Shah has instructed the establishment of a comprehensive Central team in response to the escalating frequency and severity of natural disasters in Himachal Pradesh, as reported by an official on Sunday.
During a recent discussion, HM Shah received updates about the alarming rise in incidents of cloudbursts, flash floods, landslides, and heavy rainfall, which have resulted in significant loss of life, extensive damage to infrastructure, livelihoods, and severe environmental degradation.
He promptly mandated the formation of a multi-disciplinary Central Team that includes specialists from the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Central Building Research Institute (CBRI) Roorkee, Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM) Pune, a Geologist, and the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Indore, as stated by the official.
In light of the floods, flash floods, and landslides experienced during the 2025 monsoon in various regions of Himachal Pradesh, the Central government has already dispatched an Inter-Ministerial Central Team (IMCT) ahead of the formal memorandum, to assess the damages firsthand, according to an official announcement.
The IMCT is set to visit the impacted areas of the state from July 18 to 21, with 13 teams from the NDRF deployed in the state for rescue and relief operations.
Under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Central Government is committed to supporting states during disasters without any bias, as noted in the statement.
In this regard, a high-level committee, led by HM Shah, has already sanctioned an outlay of Rs 2006.40 crore for Himachal Pradesh to aid in recovery and rebuilding efforts in areas impacted by calamities such as floods, landslides, and cloudbursts for 2023, and has disbursed the first installment of Rs 451.44 crore on July 7, it added.
To assist those affected, the Central government has released the first installment of Rs 198.80 crore from the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) to Himachal Pradesh on June 18.
The Central government has also extended all necessary logistical support to all states, including Himachal Pradesh, which involves the deployment of essential NDRF teams, Army units, and Air Force assistance.
