New Delhi, Jan 19 (NationPress) - Union Home Minister Amit Shah extended heartfelt wishes to the personnel of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) on their Raising Day, emphasizing their vital role as a pillar of trust for India during natural disasters. He praised their unwavering commitment to the Centre's mission of fostering a disaster-resilient India.

HM Shah shared his greetings on X, stating, “Warm greetings to the personnel of NDRF on Raising Day. By significantly contributing to the Modi government's vision of a disaster-resilient India, the NDRF has become a crucial pillar of trust that the nation relies upon during calamities. We salute the martyrs who devoted their lives to ensuring the safety of others.”

Every year on January 19, India commemorates NDRF Raising Day, marking the anniversary of the establishment of the National Disaster Response Force.

The NDRF was founded in 2006 under the Disaster Management Act and has been at the forefront of disaster management in India, executing thousands of rescue, relief, and evacuation missions nationwide.

Currently, the NDRF is composed of 16 battalions specialized in disaster response, strategically located at 68 sites across the country. These locations are selected based on thorough vulnerability assessments and threat analysis conducted by the agency, enabling swift and effective access to disaster-affected areas.

The formation of the NDRF was prompted by a series of catastrophic natural disasters that struck India between 1990 and 2004. Recognizing the need for a dedicated disaster response mechanism, the government enacted the Disaster Management Act on December 26, 2005, leading to the official establishment of the NDRF on January 19, 2006.

The NDRF’s motto, ‘Aapada Seva Sadaiv Sarvatra’, signifies its commitment to offering continuous disaster response services in all situations. Over the years, the force has exemplified this motto through its bravery, discipline, and dedication.

Raising Day honors the valor and selfless service of NDRF personnel, who risk their lives to save others in emergencies. This occasion also serves to enhance public awareness about the critical contributions of the force and its accomplishments in managing disasters.

Over the years, the NDRF has significantly enhanced its training, expertise, and resources to effectively manage various natural and man-made disasters. With 1,149 personnel across its 16 battalions, the force is also prepared to respond to chemical, biological, and radiological emergencies.

To date, the NDRF has carried out over 12,000 rescue and relief operations, saving more than 1.58 lakh lives during disasters, reaffirming its position as a trusted guardian in times of crisis.
