Agartala, April 10 (NationPress) Chief Minister Manik Saha announced on Thursday that the state government has held discussions with investors regarding the establishment of a Homeopathy Medical College in Tripura.
During the celebration of World Homeopathy Day 2025 at Prajna Bhavan, the Chief Minister highlighted the long-standing challenges faced by homeopathy treatment.
“We must tackle these challenges head-on. We are actively pursuing the creation of a Homeopathy Medical College. I visited the state hospital dedicated to Homeopathy, where some external investors expressed interest in this initiative,” stated Saha, who oversees the home portfolio.
He noted that the origins of homeopathy trace back to West Bengal, from where it expanded throughout India, mentioning that residents of Tripura would often travel to West Bengal for homeopathy treatments.
“Tripura faces certain challenges in homeopathy treatment that necessitate extensive publicity and outreach. We need to bring attention to successful outcomes. Numerous homeopathy practitioners have built strong reputations in the state, yet many people remain unaware of these success stories,” he added.
Saha, also a dental surgeon, explained that while homeopathy may not provide immediate solutions, it offers significant long-term benefits, stating that many patients can be treated effectively without surgery through homeopathy.
“Since 2014, with Narendra Modi assuming the role of Prime Minister, homeopathy has received the attention it deserves, which had been overlooked for many years,” he asserted.
Homeopathy, alongside Unani and Ayurveda, falls under the Ayush umbrella, and its medicines are known to have no adverse effects.
“We must raise public awareness. We are optimistic that in the future, we will be able to present our benefits to the community,” Saha remarked.
The Chief Minister mentioned that there are currently 173 Homeopathy Medical Officers in the state and that the government is considering hiring additional homeopathy doctors. He also announced plans to establish another integrated Ayush Hospital in the Sabroom Sub-division of southern Tripura.
The Health Department in Tripura has made considerable advancements. “We are also committed to enhancing homeopathy treatment,” he added.
Present at the event were Health Secretary Kiran Gitte, Additional Secretary Rajiv Dutta, Director of Health Department Tapan Majumder, Director of Medical Education H.P. Sharma, Director of Family Welfare and Disease Prevention Anjan Das, Joint Director of the National Health Mission Arup Deb, along with other notable doctors.
