- Vaccine benefits significantly outweigh risks.
- Covid vaccines maintain high safety and quality standards.
New Delhi, July 3 (NationPress) Dr. Sudheer Arava from AIIMS has stated that none of the Covid vaccine doses are associated with heart attacks or fatalities. This assertion comes in the wake of ongoing research by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).
In an interview with IANS, he emphasized that preliminary findings have shown no correlation between heart attacks and the Covid vaccines developed in India.
"So far, our research indicates that the vaccine does not influence mortality rates, regardless of whether it’s the first, second, or third dose; there is no significant difference," Arava explained.
His remarks come amid rising concerns regarding heart attack-related deaths reported across the nation.
Regarding the study, Arava, affiliated with AIIMS' Department of Pathology, mentioned that it was initiated by the ICMR following the surge of deaths linked to Covid in the country.
Initial findings, set to be published soon, reveal that approximately 50% of deaths among individuals aged 18 to 45 are due to heart attacks.
Another notable discovery is the category of "unexplained deaths," where the cause remains undetermined.
To ascertain whether the death patterns align with those observed before the Covid era, historical data was reviewed, revealing no notable differences in mortality causes.
"We discovered that the death rate patterns among young individuals before and during Covid are comparably similar. There is no definitive evidence suggesting that the vaccine is responsible for sudden deaths in young people," Arava stated during his conversation with IANS.
Dr. Rajiv Narang from the Department of Cardiology at AIIMS added, "The advantages of vaccinations significantly outweigh the minimal potential side effects." He cautioned that a heart attack is a complex issue with various possible causes for sudden cardiac arrest.
Meanwhile, the Indian Vaccine Manufacturers Association (IVMA) released a statement affirming the safety of domestically developed Covid vaccines. "India's Covid-19 vaccines were created and produced adhering to the highest safety and quality standards," declared IVMA Director General Dr. G.V.J.A. Harshavardhan.
He elaborated that all Covid-19 vaccines in India received Emergency Use Authorization (restricted use in emergency situations according to WHO guidelines).
Harshavardhan emphasized that these approvals were granted based on comprehensive evaluations conducted during preclinical studies and human clinical trials.
He mentioned that Indian vaccines have played a crucial role in managing the Covid-19 pandemic, minimizing its impact on lives and livelihoods, and significantly contributing to the recovery and growth of India's economy.
According to Harshavardhan, the advantages of vaccines produced in India have also benefited numerous nations globally through the government's Vaccine Maitri program.
"We assure the public regarding the safety and efficacy of Covid-19 vaccines," he concluded.
