New Delhi, Nov 13 (NationPress) On Thursday, India and Spain conducted the 8th round of Foreign Office Consultations to assess the full range of their bilateral relations.
The discussions were co-chaired by Sibi George, Secretary (West) at the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), and Diego Martinez Belio, Secretary of State for Foreign and Global Affairs of Spain. The meeting facilitated a valuable exchange of views on regional and global challenges, notably the collaborative efforts in the worldwide battle against terrorism.
As per a statement from Randhir Jaiswal, spokesperson for the MEA, "Secretary (West) Sibi George engaged in the 8th Round of India-Spain Foreign Office Consultations with Mr. Diego Martínez Belio, Secretary of State for Foreign and Global Affairs of Spain."
"During the discussions, both parties evaluated the complete spectrum of their bilateral relations, particularly in light of the impending India-Spain Year of Culture, Tourism and Artificial Intelligence. They also shared views on regional and global matters of mutual interest, including the fight against terrorism, where India reaffirmed its unwavering policy of zero tolerance," the statement elaborated.
Earlier in October, External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar conveyed his best wishes to his Spanish counterpart Jose Manuel Albares and the people of Spain on their National Day, reinforcing India's commitment to enhancing bilateral relations.
"Best wishes to FM Jose Manuel Albares, the Government, and the people of Spain on their National Day. I appreciate the strengthening of our multifaceted cooperation," EAM Jaishankar shared on X.
In May, EAM Jaishankar had a telephonic discussion with Jose Manuel Albares to address India's resolute approach towards cross-border terrorism.
He noted in a post on X, "Had a conversation with FM Jose Manuel Albares of Spain. Discussed India’s resolute and balanced response to cross-border terrorism." This dialogue followed the launch of 'Operation Sindoor' by Indian armed forces, targeting nine terrorist sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir as a reaction to the April 22 terror assault in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir.
The relationship between India and Spain has been amicable since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1956. Spain ranks as India's sixth-largest trade partner in Europe, according to statements from the Consulate General of India in Spain. The defense collaboration between India and Spain has seen significant growth in recent years, and cultural exchange remains a vital aspect of India-Spain relations.
