New Delhi, July 20 (NationPress) India's automobile exports have surged by 22 percent year-on-year (YoY) in the April-June quarter of the ongoing financial year (Q1 FY26), as per data from the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM).
This remarkable growth is attributed to unprecedented shipments of passenger vehicles, alongside a robust performance in two-wheelers, commercial vehicles, and three-wheelers.
In total, India exported 1,457,461 vehicles across all categories in Q1, an increase from 1,192,566 units in the corresponding period last year.
Passenger vehicle exports reached a record-breaking 204,330 units in the April-June quarter, representing a 13 percent rise compared to 180,483 units exported in the same quarter last year.
SIAM credited this growth to consistent demand in various international markets, particularly strong performance from the Middle East and Latin America.
Additionally, exports benefited from recovering demand in neighboring nations like Sri Lanka and Nepal, along with increasing interest from Japan.
SIAM further highlighted that Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) with countries such as Australia have significantly aided in boosting shipments.
Maruti Suzuki, the country's leading car manufacturer, emerged as the top exporter of passenger vehicles in the April-June quarter, shipping 96,181 cars abroad, which is an increase of over 37 percent from 69,962 cars exported during the same period last year.
Hyundai Motor India exported 48,140 cars during this timeframe, marking a 13 percent increase compared to 42,600 cars in the April-June quarter of the previous year.
