Jaipur, July 3 (NationPress) The 1990 batch IPS officer Rajiv Sharma is set to assume the role of the Director General of Police (DGP) for Rajasthan this Thursday evening at the Police Headquarters, as confirmed by official sources.
Sharma arrives with an impressive background, boasting over 30 years of dedicated service in law enforcement. Prior to this, he held the position of Director General at the Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPRD) in New Delhi.
His extensive career includes significant roles in Rajasthan, such as Director General for the Anti-Corruption Bureau, State Disaster Relief Force, and as the Director of the Rajasthan Police Academy. He has also served as Superintendent of Police across several districts, including Jodhpur, Jhalawar, Dausa, Rajsamand, Bharatpur, and Jaipur North. In addition, he has experience as an SP in Jaipur Traffic, CBI Jaipur, and CBI Delhi.
On Wednesday, IPS Rajiv Sharma was officially released from his central deputation, following a formal request from the Rajasthan government to the central authorities earlier that week.
He is anticipated to arrive at the Police Headquarters later today to take over from Acting DGP Sanjay Agarwal, who was appointed following the retirement of former DGP Ravi Prakash Meharda.
For the appointment, a panel of seven DG-rank IPS officers including Rajiv Kumar Sharma, Sanjay Agarwal, Anil Paliwal, Rajesh Arya, Rajesh Nirwana, Govind Gupta, and Anand Srivastava was presented to the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) based on seniority. The UPSC recommended three candidates, from which the Rajasthan government selected Rajiv Kumar Sharma for the esteemed post.
Hailing from Mathura, Rajiv Sharma is academically accomplished with both an MA and MPhil degree. His career began in 1992 as a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in Jodhpur City, and he climbed the ranks to become Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) in 2006, serving in the Crime Branch at the Police Headquarters.
