Mumbai, May 1 (NationPress) Following the approval of the enumeration of castes in the upcoming Census by the Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs (CCPA), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Abu Azmi, the Maharashtra President of the Samajwadi Party, expressed his support for this significant decision. He emphasized that it would be just to acknowledge Akhilesh Yadav, the President of the Samajwadi Party, and Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, for their persistent demands for a caste census.
In an interview with IANS, Abu Azmi remarked, “I fully endorse this decision, but it’s important to recognize Akhilesh Yadav and the INDIA Bloc. These leaders have long been advocating for a caste census, believing that a larger population should result in a greater allocation of resources. Historically, they have not received their rightful share.
“Both the Sachar Committee and the Rehman Committee, which were established by the government, have pointed out the dire conditions faced by Muslims, which in many aspects are worse than those experienced by Dalits.
“There is a significant shortage of housing, educational institutions, and job opportunities for Muslims. Only about 2 to 3 percent of Muslims have representation in government positions. Thus, this decision, if implemented now, would be highly advantageous.
“Credit for this achievement should rightly go to the INDIA Bloc, including Akhilesh Yadav and Rahul Gandhi, who have tirelessly advocated for a caste census. Those who previously opposed it are now acknowledging its importance.”
Azmi further emphasized the urgency for the caste census to commence immediately.
“We are thrilled that the caste census has received full approval. It should start without delay. The sooner it commences, the more people will trust the authenticity of this decision,” he added.
Additionally, Azmi addressed the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, stating, “Decisive action must be taken against terrorism. I heard PM Modi this morning reiterating that terrorism knows no religion and that no community should be blamed for it. I concur with his sentiment.
“However, I urge PM Modi to also voice his concerns about the violence faced by Muslims in various regions following the terrorist attack in Kashmir. Reports have emerged of Muslims being assaulted, their businesses being shuttered, and individuals being compelled to recite Hanuman Chalisa to purchase goods. This represents a form of separatism. I implore Modi ji to reaffirm his previous stance against terrorism.”
