New Delhi, May 5 (NationPress) External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar met with a Japanese delegation led by Fukushiro Nukaga, Speaker of the House of Representatives of Japan, in New Delhi on Monday. He expressed his appreciation for the support received following the Pahalgam terrorist attack.
"I was pleased to meet Speaker Fukushiro Nukaga of Japan's House of Representatives today in Delhi, along with his Parliamentary colleagues and business delegation. I extend my gratitude for their solidarity regarding the Pahalgam terrorist attack," EAM posted on X.
"I value his leadership in strengthening the natural ties between India and Japan. We have agreed to work on enhancing talent exchanges, improving business connections, and fostering technology partnerships," he added.
Additionally, EAM Jaishankar engaged in discussions with Latvia's Foreign Minister, Baiba Braze, about the Pahalgam terror incident and other international matters.
"I had a productive discussion with FM Baiba Braze of Latvia this evening. We covered the Pahalgam terrorist attack and its international implications, as well as broader global issues and our bilateral collaboration," EAM mentioned on X.
Last week, EAM Jaishankar had a phone conversation with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov amidst rising tensions between India and Pakistan following the Pahalgam attack that claimed 26 lives.
During his call, the EAM emphasized that the "perpetrators, supporters, and planners of the Pahalgam terror attack must face justice."
On Thursday, Jaishankar also spoke with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, reiterating the necessity to hold those accountable for the attack.
US State Department Spokesperson Tammy Bruce noted that Secretary Rubio expressed condolences for the lives lost in the tragic Pahalgam attack, reaffirming the United States' commitment to collaborate with India in countering terrorism.
She added: "The Secretary urged Pakistani officials to assist in the investigation of this despicable attack and encouraged Pakistan to engage with India to ease tensions, re-establish direct communication, and maintain peace and security in South Asia."
The horrific assault on April 22 resulted in the deaths of 26 innocent tourists and left many others seriously injured. It occurred in the Baisaran Valley near Pahalgam, where four heavily armed terrorists, two of whom were from Pakistan, emerged from the dense forests and opened fire indiscriminately on tourists. This incident has been characterized as one of the most devastating in the region's recent history.
