New Delhi, April 11 (NationPress) In a significant advancement in the investigation of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, key conspirator Tahawwur Hussain Rana has been extradited to India by the United States. This development represents a noteworthy progress in India’s enduring pursuit to hold accountable those behind the 2008 attacks.

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar praised the event, calling it a vital moment in the struggle against terrorism.

In a message on X, EAM Jaishankar stated: "I appreciate the counter-terrorism collaboration between our nations. This is indeed a significant move towards ensuring justice for the victims of the 26/11 attacks."

S. Jaishankar was responding to US State Secretary Marco Rubio's comment regarding Rana's successful transfer from American authorities to the National Investigation Agency (NIA).

Rubio mentioned on X: "We have extradited Tahawwur Hussain Rana to India to confront charges for his involvement in the dreadful 2008 Mumbai terrorist attacks. Alongside India, we have persistently sought justice for the 166 individuals, including 6 Americans, who perished in these attacks. I am pleased that this day has arrived."

The US State Department confirmed the extradition on Thursday, reiterating Washington's commitment to supporting India in its quest for justice.

Spokesperson Tammy Bruce stated: "On April 9, the United States extradited Tahawwur Hussain Rana to India to face justice for his role in orchestrating the horrific 2008 Mumbai terrorist attack."

"The United States has consistently backed India's endeavors to ensure that those accountable for these attacks are brought to justice. As President Trump has articulated, the United States and India will persist in their collaborative efforts to combat the global menace of terrorism," she added.

She encouraged individuals to explore the details and grasp the severity of the situation.

Previously, following his arrival in India on Thursday, the NIA confirmed Rana's custody. A Delhi court has placed him in NIA custody for 18 days, with interrogation already underway as of Friday.

Rana, a Pakistani-Canadian national, faces accusations of aiding in the planning and execution of the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, which resulted in the deaths of 166 individuals, including six American citizens.

The attacks, perpetrated by the Pakistani terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba, have amplified the counter-terrorism collaboration between India and the United States.
