What Actions Did J&K CM Take in Response to Border District Tensions?

Srinagar, May 7 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah, convened an urgent meeting on Wednesday to evaluate the circumstances in border regions after sustained shelling from the Pakistan Army along the Line of Control (LoC).

According to officials, the Chief Minister led the video conference with Deputy Commissioners from all bordering districts to review the situation amid escalating cross-border hostilities.

“The preparedness for potential emergencies was assessed, especially given the rising tensions along the LoC and in areas adjacent to the international border. The meeting included significant figures such as Advisor to the Chief Minister Nasir Aslam Wani, Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, Additional Chief Secretary Dheeraj Gupta, and Divisional Commissioners from both Kashmir and Jammu, along with various local officials,” the officials expressed.

“During this crucial meeting, the Chief Minister ordered an immediate allocation of Contingency Funds amounting to Rs 5 crore for each border district and Rs 2 crore for other districts. This funding is intended to ensure that Deputy Commissioners have the necessary resources to handle any emergencies. The Chief Minister emphasized the importance of prioritizing border districts for these funds. He highlighted the critical need to protect civilian lives by improving infrastructure for public shelters and bunkers, preparing evacuation plans, and maintaining a sufficient food supply,” officials elaborated.

“In terms of healthcare, the Chief Minister directed the Health Department to keep an adequate stock of essential medical supplies, ensuring the availability of doctors and paramedics while maintaining a ready blood supply for hospitals, particularly in vulnerable regions. He also instructed that ambulances be dispatched to border areas experiencing shelling to ensure rapid transport of casualties to medical facilities,” officials noted.

“The Chief Minister expressed sorrow over civilian casualties and injuries along the LoC and urged Deputy Commissioners to provide all possible support to the affected families. He also ordered the quick filling of vacant positions, such as Tehsildars, to ensure the government is responsive to the situation. The officers assured the Chief Minister of their districts' preparedness and readiness for emergency operations, confirming that all necessary supplies were stocked,” officials further stated.

Deputy Commissioners updated the Chief Minister on their continuous monitoring of the situation and their commitment to keeping the administration informed of any needs arising from the ongoing crisis.

Furthermore, CM Omar Abdullah instructed all officials to actively combat misinformation and rumors, advocating for the public to depend only on verified official information during these sensitive times.
