Jammu, Feb 9 (NationPress) J&K Police announced on Sunday that the drive to combat the misuse of SIM cards has been significantly strengthened throughout the Union Territory to thwart unauthorized issuance and utilization of mobile phones by anti-social and anti-national individuals.

Comprehensive inspections have been conducted across various districts such as Srinagar, Ganderbal, Anantnag, Budgam, Pulwama, Shopian, Bandipora, Samba, and Kishtwar, to ensure rigorous adherence to Know Your Customer (KYC) regulations by SIM card vendors.

These initiatives are aimed at preventing unauthorized issuance and misuse of SIM cards, thereby preserving the security and integrity of communication networks, as stated by the police.

In the past year, over 30 individuals have been apprehended for acquiring SIM cards in their names and distributing them to terrorists for nefarious activities.

The State Investigation Agency (SIA) and local police units are actively pursuing strict actions against such infractions.

The police have also called upon residents to remain vigilant concerning SIM cards registered in their names and cautioned that anyone found aiding in the misuse of SIM cards for terrorism or organized crime will face severe legal penalties.

The Army, security forces, and Jammu and Kashmir police have escalated their operations against terrorism.

Recently, Union Home Minister Amit Shah led a high-level security meeting to assess the overall security situation in J&K.

Minister Shah instructed security forces to ensure zero infiltration and maintain zero tolerance towards terrorism in J&K.

Terrorists are attempting to infiltrate into Jammu and Kashmir, aided by minimal snowfall this winter which has kept the infiltration routes open. Consequently, the Army and security forces have heightened their vigilance along the border and within the interior regions of Jammu and Kashmir.

In the last week, at least two significant infiltration attempts were thwarted by the alert Army along the Line of Control (LoC) in the districts of Poonch and Rajouri in the Jammu division.
