New Delhi, Feb 21 (NationPress) Committed to fortifying the Rule of Law, Democratic and Parliamentary Institutions, and Electoral Processes, O.P. Jindal Global University has introduced three innovative Degree Programs in Electoral Analysis & Management, Political Communication, and Legislative Drafting.

The announcement was made in the presence of the Chief Guest, Om Birla, the Speaker of the Lok Sabha, along with the Guest of Honour, Arjun Ram Meghwal, Minister of State for Law & Justice (Independent Charge), Government of India. Other prominent figures included Tushar Mehta, the Solicitor General of India, and Naveen Jindal, Chancellor of O.P. Jindal Global University and Member of Parliament.

The three Master’s Degree Programs are M.A. in Legislative Drafting, M.A. in Electoral Analysis & Management, and M.A. in Political Communication.

These intensive one-year programs are tailored to meet the increasing demand for skilled professionals who can navigate the intricate realities of modern democracy—spanning election administration, political campaigns, strategic communication, and effective law-making.

During the Inaugural Address, Speaker Om Birla remarked, “In our current democratic era, being the world's largest democracy, these master's programs will enhance our democracy. They will equip the youth to steer the political, democratic, technological, and educational dimensions of our nation. As we've seen since 1952, India stands out as a democratic nation with transparent elections. The upcoming generation will delve into Electoral Analysis & Management, leading to innovative approaches. The necessity for multicultural communication is paramount today. The Indian Parliament has also embraced AI technology to bridge the gap between citizens and legislators. These courses will empower future leaders, reinforcing democratic institutions and processes.”

Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal praised the introduction of these advanced degree programs, stating, “The launch of programs in Legislative Practice, Electoral Analysis & Management, and Political Communication by O.P. Jindal Global University is a significant milestone. In legislative language, even a single word can alter meanings. Each term in the Constitution carries weight; every concept is crucial. Legislative drafting holds immense importance: when any Ministry formulates a Bill, it undergoes legal scrutiny and meticulous drafting. These courses will impart a profound understanding of legislative drafting and governance to students, benefiting society at large.”

R. Venkataramani, Attorney General for India, conveyed his support for the new courses, mentioning, “I anticipate these programs will attract top talent, turning them into invaluable societal resources. A comprehensive course in legislative drafting is long overdue. JGU aims to cultivate individuals who can facilitate credible communication in political connectivity. We're excited about this educational venture.”

Tushar Mehta, Solicitor General of India, expressed, “It is a privilege to join this event today. Legislative drafting is one of the most overlooked subjects in law. JGU may be the first institution to offer a postgraduate course in this field, fulfilling our nation's need for competent legislative drafters. We will now have dedicated professionals trained in the art of drafting legislation, a skill often underestimated.”

Naveen Jindal, the Founding Chancellor of O.P. Jindal Global University and Member of Parliament, emphasized that the newly launched courses will significantly enhance India's democratic processes and empower youths to engage in these unique programs.

In his Welcome Address, Founding Vice Chancellor, Prof (Dr) C. Raj Kumar, highlighted, “Today we introduce three pivotal academic initiatives, each serving a distinct purpose. The unpredictability in legislative drafting often invites judicial interventions, which may not always align with the core of justice. At a time when faith in democratic institutions worldwide is being questioned, these new programs will bolster political and legislative processes. We must engage in democratic dialogues, contribute to knowledge creation, and interact with civil society. Beyond academic instruction, these programs are designed to enhance student employability through practical and immersive learning, mentorship from seasoned practitioners, and exposure to real-world policy and governance contexts. Through internships, live projects, simulations, and interactions with policymakers and communication experts, graduates will acquire essential skills, professional networks, and domain expertise, highly sought after in government institutions, political organizations, consulting firms, media houses, regulatory authorities, and international organizations.

Prof (Dr) Upasana Mahanta, Dean of Admissions & Outreach, O.P. Jindal Global University, introduced the Master’s Degree Programs, stating that collectively, they represent JGU’s commitment to interdisciplinary, practice-oriented education that aligns academia with real-world governance challenges, while promoting ethical leadership and democratic values.

The M.A. in Electoral Analysis & Management (EAM) centers on the theory and practice of elections, delving into electoral systems, voter behavior, campaign strategy, election administration, data analytics, and democratic ethics. This program prepares graduates for roles in election management bodies, political parties, campaign organizations, policy institutions, and civil society.

The M.A. in Political Communication explores the connection between politics, media, technology, and public opinion. Merging political theory with communication studies, digital strategy, campaign simulations, and practitioner-led learning, it equips students to design, analyze, and manage political messaging across both traditional and digital platforms.

The M.A. in Legislative Drafting provides specialized training in the creation of laws and regulations, statutory interpretation, constitutional principles, and policy design. This program aims to professionalize legislative drafting by combining legal precision, plain-language drafting, and comparative best practices, preparing graduates for careers in legislatures, government departments, regulatory bodies, and policy research.
