Jaipur, May 21 (NationPress) Concluding all rumors surrounding his next steps, BJP MLA from Anta Assembly constituency, Kanwarlal Meena, surrendered on Wednesday at the ACJM Court in Manoharthana, located in Rajasthan's Jhalawar district, in adherence to a directive from the Supreme Court.

Meena had received a three-year prison sentence for an incident dating back nearly two decades, where he was accused of brandishing a pistol at an SDM and issuing life threats.

Upon surrendering, Kanwarlal Meena stated, “I have complete faith in the judiciary.”

When asked about the possibility of an appeal, he replied, “Only my lawyer can comment on that.” After approximately 20 minutes in the courtroom, the ACJM ordered Meena to be placed in judicial custody.

He was taken to Manoharthana Community Hospital under police escort for a required medical examination before being moved to the Aklera Sub-Jail.

There are indications he may later be transferred to the district jail. Meena arrived at the court around 11:15 a.m., accompanied by his lawyers and supporters, making a stop at the Kamkheda Balaji Temple for 'darshan' prior to his surrender.

The Supreme Court had granted Meena a 15-day window to surrender after dismissing his challenge against the High Court order on May 7. That deadline lapsed on Wednesday. This legal matter traces back to 2005 when a complaint was lodged against him at Manohar Police Station for allegedly threatening an SDM with a firearm.

Although an initial acquittal occurred in April 2018 due to insufficient evidence, the Additional District and Sessions Court in Aklera overturned this ruling on December 14, 2020, leading to his conviction and three-year sentence.

In response to the conviction, Meena submitted a petition to the Rajasthan High Court, which was rejected on May 2, 2025, resulting in the immediate order to surrender.

He then approached the Supreme Court, which upheld the surrender order on May 7.

A substantial presence of police and BJP supporters gathered at the Manoharthana Court during Meena’s surrender, attracting considerable media coverage as it marked a pivotal moment in a high-profile legal saga involving a sitting MLA.
