Bengaluru, July 19 (NationPress) The Karnataka BJP is calling for an investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the tragic stampede that occurred on June 4, resulting in the loss of 11 lives during the celebrations of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) IPL championship win.

Karnataka's Leader of the Opposition, R. Ashoka, sent a letter to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Saturday, advocating for the case to be transferred to the CBI.

Ashoka emphasized, "Our fight will continue until justice is served for the families of the 11 innocent youths who lost their lives due to the negligence of the Congress government during the IPL victory celebrations.

By blaming the police department as the sole culprit for the incident, the government is trying to avoid its own responsibility. I have urged Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to assign the case to the CBI to ensure justice for the victims' families."

In his correspondence, Ashoka pointed out, "Eleven individuals were killed and over 56 injured during the RCB victory celebrations on June 4. This incident has ignited a nationwide debate and has become a significant blemish in the sporting history of our state. There have been numerous allegations exchanged between the police and the state government regarding the incident."

“Media reports indicate that the stampede was a result of police negligence. Nevertheless, the government has merely suspended a few police officers and remained largely silent. The Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT), while considering a petition from one of the suspended officers, remarked that it was inappropriate to hold only the police accountable,” he stated.

“It remains uncertain who is genuinely accountable for this tragedy, and the public shares this concern. Therefore, I implore you not to politicize this issue and to transfer the case to the CBI to ensure justice for the lost innocent lives,” Ashoka concluded.
