Bengaluru, July 1 (NationPress) - The Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) has dealt a significant blow to the Karnataka government by overturning the suspension of senior IPS officer Vikash Kumar Vikash, who was implicated in the June 4 stampede incident in Bengaluru.
The tragic event took place outside the Chinnaswamy Stadium, where a massive crowd gathered to celebrate the RCB team's victory in the IPL.
Sadly, the stampede resulted in the deaths of eleven individuals and left over fifty others injured.
The CAT's decision was rendered by a Division Bench consisting of Justice B.K. Srivastava and Justice Santosh Mehra on Tuesday, mandating the state government to restore all allowances and facilities to the officer.
Vikash Kumar Vikash, who served as the Inspector General and Additional Commissioner of Police for Bengaluru City (West), had contested his suspension at the Central Administrative Tribunal, arguing that the state had unfairly made him a scapegoat in the aftermath of the stampede.
On June 5, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah ordered the suspension of five officials, including A.K. Girish, Circle Police Inspector of Cubbon Park Police Station, and C Balakrishna, Assistant Commissioner of Police, alongside Deputy Commissioner of Police Shekhar H Tekkannavar and Commissioner of Police Dayananda.
In defense of the suspensions, CM Siddaramaiah stated that those who had failed to perform their duties effectively were justly suspended.
The suspension order indicated that there was significant dereliction of duty by the officers involved.
Previously, the Central Administrative Tribunal in Bengaluru had issued a notice to the state government regarding the suspension of the senior IPS officer related to this unfortunate incident.
