The government of Karnataka has announced its readiness to implement internal reservation for Scheduled Castes in government employment throughout the state, contingent upon the submission of the interim report by the Nagamohan Das panel.
Previously, during a press briefing held at the Chief Minister's Office after a strategic meeting on internal reservation for SCs in government roles, state Home Minister G. Parameshwara reiterated the Congress administration's commitment to enforcing the quota for SCs.
"Our government is dedicated to executing internal reservation for Scheduled Castes. This was already a promise made in our electoral manifesto. Retired Justice Nagamohan Das indicated in our meeting that empirical data will illuminate the issue," stated Parameshwara.
Minister Mahadevappa, who was also present, mentioned that a comprehensive meeting was convened under the CM’s guidance with senior ministers to deliberate on internal reservation.
"The Nagamohan Das Committee has presented an initial report outlining the advancements made thus far regarding internal reservation. A proposal for its prompt execution has been recommended," he remarked.
He continued, "A detailed discussion was held based on empirical data. Justice Nagamohan Das will submit the interim report. Decisions regarding the implementation of internal reservation will be made based on that report."
"All facets have been thoroughly examined and addressed. Our government is entirely committed to enforcing internal reservation. No community has specifically requested a percentage of reservation."
"Most departments have already submitted the required data. We will proceed in compliance with Supreme Court directives. Until internal reservation is executed, no backlog positions, promotions, or new appointments will be undertaken," he clarified.
