Bengaluru, May 15 (NationPress) Karnataka's Home Minister, G. Parameshwara, has urged the Central government to swiftly release Rs 5,500 crore for the state.
"The release of these funds would significantly contribute to the development of Karnataka," he remarked.
During a press conference in Bengaluru, Parameshwara highlighted that the state has been seeking the pending grants from the Central government for the last two years.
"Various factors have caused delays, and at times, the funds have not been disbursed at all. The Chief Minister has convened meetings to encourage the state's Members of Parliament to advocate for the release of these funds," he explained.
He emphasized that an urgent allocation of Rs 5,500 crore from the Centre is crucial, insisting that pressure must be exerted based on the principles of Centre-State relations.
"In the past, we even organized a protest in Delhi to press for the Centre's action. If we are entitled to these grants, why should we protest? The release of this funding will bolster the state's progress. I strongly urge the Centre to act promptly," he stated.
As for the absence of MPs at Wednesday's meeting, he commented, "Only they can explain their absence. Perhaps they had other commitments. Our government and the Chief Minister have always respected the MPs, but we are unaware of their specific reasons for not attending."
Additionally, he announced a significant event scheduled for May 20 in Hosapete, Vijayanagar district, organized by the Congress party.
"Over 50,000 individuals will be granted land ownership rights by the Revenue Department. This is a government initiative. Prominent leaders including Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, and Randeep Surjewala will participate in this event," Parameshwara revealed.
While extending birthday wishes to Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, Parameshwara remarked, "He is the pioneer of the Greater Bengaluru concept. I am hopeful for its success. We've observed major cities globally and understand how this model operates. The Greater Bengaluru Authority is set to replace the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) as the city's governing body. Any shortcomings will be addressed.
