Chandigarh, June 26 (NationPress) - BJP national General Secretary Tarun Chugh criticized former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Thursday for allegedly weaponising state agencies to arrest Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia.
Chugh stated, “This is pure political vendetta. Kejriwal had offered an apology to Majithia in 2018 for making unfounded accusations regarding drugs; if that apology was genuine, then why is Majithia now being treated as an accused? This only highlights Kejriwal’s hypocrisy,” he added.
After a Delhi court tentatively found Kejriwal guilty of corruption and remarked that he was unfit to hold the Chief Minister's position, Chugh alleged that Kejriwal is now imposing his ‘danda tantra’ in Punjab.
He remarked that Punjab is descending into a full-blown police state. On the 50th anniversary of Indira Gandhi’s Emergency, Kejriwal appears to be resurrecting its essence, suppressing dissent under the orders of an authoritarian figure.
Chugh accused the Mann administration of “net-casting for small fish” and stifling opposition voices while allowing genuine drug lords to operate freely.
He labeled the much-publicized ‘Yuddh Nashiyan Virudh’ initiative as a mere “PR stunt aimed at silencing the opposition,” asserting that any facts surrounding the Majithia case should be disclosed transparently, without the misuse of state machinery.
Chugh called upon all opposition leaders in Punjab to denounce this tyranny and urged the people to “rise and uproot such unconstitutional, dictatorial forces.”
“This land once resisted the Emergency,” Chugh noted. “It must rise against it once more.”
The Punjab Vigilance Bureau reported that they arrested Akali Dal leader and former Minister Bikram Singh Majithia from his residence in a prestigious area of Amritsar on allegations of laundering over Rs 540 crore in drug money.
Investigations by the police's Special Investigation Team (SIT), examining the FIR from 2021, revealed extensive laundering of drug proceeds facilitated by Majithia, according to the government.
Initial inquiries found that over Rs 540 crore of drug money was laundered through various means, including an unaccounted cash deposit of Rs 161 crore in bank accounts belonging to companies controlled by Majithia, the transfer of Rs 141 crore through suspected foreign entities, and an excessive deposit of Rs 236 crore that was not disclosed or explained in company financial records.
