Kochi, March 20 (NationPress) The Kerala High Court has instructed the police to take necessary measures against an individual accused of undermining a Hindu custom by allegedly plucking hair from his private areas and placing it in a Thulasithara.

A Thulasithara is a revered structure typically situated in front of Hindu households, where the basil (tulsi) plant is venerated.

The issue was brought to the court's attention when Sreeraj submitted a bail application following his arrest for disseminating a video on Facebook and Instagram.

The video purportedly depicted Abdul Hakkim disparaging the Thulasithara. A case was filed against Sreeraj based on claims that Hakkim, who is said to be mentally unstable, was inciting religious discord through his actions.

However, the Court noted that no action had been initiated against Hakkim and expressed concern regarding the absence of a case against him.

“The Thulasithara is a sacred site in Hinduism. In the video, Abdul Hakkim is seen plucking hairs from his private regions and placing them in the Thulasithara. This behavior clearly offends the religious sentiments of Hindus. It seems that no action has been taken against Abdul Hakkim,” the Court remarked.

Sreeraj contended that he merely shared a video that was already circulating on social media and pointed out that no measures had been taken against the individual who committed the act.

The High Court further questioned Hakkim's mental health status, noting that he operates a hotel near the Guruvayoor Temple and possesses a valid driving license.

“If he is mentally unstable, how can he manage a hotel within the vicinity of the Guruvayoor Temple? Moreover, if he holds a driving license, the investigating officer needs to look into how a mentally ill person is allowed to drive,” the Court stated.

The Court subsequently granted bail to Sreeraj while directing the police to take appropriate action against Hakkim as per the law.
