Kolkata, Sep 7 (NationPress) Kolkata Police Commissioner Manoj Verma has organized a meeting with the Durga Puja committees in Kolkata on September 10 to review the preparations for the upcoming Durga Puja celebrations. This meeting is scheduled to take place at the Dhano Dhanya Auditorium on Wednesday evening.
The Kolkata Police are implementing special measures to ensure adherence to various administrative and legal guidelines, focusing on aspects ranging from security to crowd management.
As per sources from the Kolkata Police, comprehensive instructions regarding this meeting have already been dispatched from Lalbazar (Kolkata Police headquarters) to the Officer-in-Charge of all police stations in Kolkata.
Selected officials from the Puja committees have been invited to attend the meeting. Officials from all major Puja committees known for attracting large crowds during Durga Puja have been specifically requested to participate.
Each significant puja committee is expected to send two representatives to this meeting.
In total, approximately 1,500 participants are anticipated to be present. Senior Kolkata Police officers, including Deputy Commissioners, Assistant Commissioners, officials from the Kolkata Municipal Corporation, electricity supplier CESC, fire department, state pollution control board, and representatives from various administrative agencies will also attend.
The agenda will cover the online permit acquisition process, compliance with the High Court's directives, rules regarding donations, restrictions on pandal constructions, idol immersion schedules, and traffic management strategies.
Moreover, there will be coordination regarding the involvement of departments beyond the police to ensure law and order is maintained during the puja days across the city.
According to a police officer, each year, Durga Puja encounters various challenges including crowd control, traffic issues, noise pollution, and complaints about donations. This year, the online permit process has been simplified.
The city police commissioner aims to convey a clear message to the puja committees that stringent actions will be enforced if court orders and administrative restrictions are violated. Simultaneously, the Kolkata Police are striving to ensure a peaceful Durga Puja with the active cooperation of all stakeholders.
