Bengaluru, June 6 (NationPress) Union Minister for Heavy Industries H.D. Kumaraswamy directed his criticisms at Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah concerning the tragic stampede at Chinnaswamy Stadium that resulted in 11 fatalities. Kumaraswamy alleged that even after being informed of the casualties, CM Siddaramaiah took his grandson out for masala dosa on June 4.
During a joint press conference in Bengaluru on Friday, Kumaraswamy stated, "On June 4, at approximately 3.10 PM, the government received news of the first death in the stampede. Yet, they lacked the foresight to postpone the event. They continued the programme until 6 PM, with lakhs of people present at the stadium."
Kumaraswamy further claimed, "Despite having clear knowledge of the deaths and injuries from the stampede at Chinnaswamy Stadium, CM Siddaramaiah chose to visit a well-known hotel in Bengaluru with his grandson for dosa. This behavior reflects poorly on the CM's character."
The Chief Minister had brought his grandson on stage, and a video capturing his grandson taking a selfie with cricketer Virat Kohli became a sensation on social media.
"If CM Siddaramaiah had any sense of decency, he would have considered the suffering of the families of the deceased," Kumaraswamy asserted.
He raised concerns about the government's numerous inquiries: "The government seemed eager to demonstrate that it was addressing the incident before the High Court reviewed the suo motu PIL. The court is set to deliberate on the matter on June 10. Initially, a magisterial probe was ordered, followed by a commission led by a retired High Court Judge, and the case was also assigned to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). Which report will you accept?"
Kumaraswamy accused CM Siddaramaiah of posting on X, inviting individuals to a felicitation event for RCB players at the grand steps of the Vidhana Soudha.
During the felicitation, he alleged that the players were presented with low-quality shawls.
"I urge the Congress party to consider removing both CM Siddaramaiah and Dy CM Shivakumar from their positions and to bring in a new face," he stated.
"The fatalities occurred due to their obsession with prestige. This is detrimental to the party," Kumaraswamy claimed.
He alleged that the CM and Dy CM are primarily focused on enhancing their images and competing against each other, while people are suffering in between.
Kumaraswamy also claimed that the government had not taken any action against the Intelligence chief because they needed to consult their high command.
