Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla Recognizes Hindi's Role in 'Nation-Building' and Societal Advancement

Etawah (Uttar Pradesh), Dec 16 (NationPress) Commending the significant role of the Hindi language in the advancement of Indian society and the concept of nation-building, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla emphasized how the language unifies our cultural diversity in a cohesive thread of strength.

Birla referred to Hindi as the “soul and identity of India”.

During his speech at the annual convention of 'Etawah Hindi Seva Nidhi' on Sunday in Etawah, Uttar Pradesh, the Lok Sabha Speaker shared his insights in a post on X.

He also pointed out the ongoing initiatives to utilize AI models for translating Lok Sabha debates into Hindi.

“A modest effort is underway to convert Lok Sabha debates into Hindi using the Neural Language Model of AI,” read the announcement from the Speaker's office.

“Hindi is remarkably flexible and adaptable, allowing it to evolve with changing technologies, such that the richness of Hindi literature and poetry is accessible globally in innovative and efficient manners,” the statement continued.

The Lok Sabha Speaker underlined that AI is being harnessed to make Hindi literature and poetry universally accessible.

“With the implementation of Artificial Intelligence (AI), the rich heritage of Hindi literature and poetry is now available worldwide,” he stated, adding that Hindi is increasingly utilized in the realms of justice, administration, and internet technology, according to an official statement from the Speaker's office.

“When we examine governance systems and democratic institutions globally, the significance of Hindi in fostering India's diversity and reinforcing its unity becomes clear,” the Speaker noted as per the statement.

Birla also highlighted that during the drafting of India's Constitution, visionary leaders from various regions, who spoke different languages and dialects, recognized the importance of languages as symbols of unity. They acknowledged Hindi's unique potential to unite the entire nation.

While discussing the translation of various Supreme Court judgments, he remarked, “Times have changed. In the past, Supreme Court judgments were only composed in a single language. Today, the Supreme Court has begun translating judgments into multiple languages. In Parliament, we are utilizing 22 Indian languages, which are included in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution. We are also enhancing translation services for members who prefer to speak in their native languages.”
