Chennai, Nov 10 (NationPress) AIADMK General Secretary and Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in Tamil Nadu Assembly, Edappadi K. Palaniswami, on Monday accused the ruling DMK of obstructing the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
He stated that the party is apprehensive about losing the chance for bogus voting in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.
While addressing the media in Coimbatore, Palaniswami mentioned that the AIADMK has approached the Supreme Court to “unveil the truth” behind the DMK’s misleading propaganda regarding the revision process.
“Why are the DMK and its allies in a state of panic? They are disseminating false information that the SIR will strip people of their voting rights. This process has been conducted eight times previously in Tamil Nadu and is a standard operation of the Election Commission,” he asserted.
The former Chief Minister alleged that, unable to critique the AIADMK’s governance, the DMK has resorted to deceptive attacks.
“Following the alliance discussions, Union Home Minister Amit Shah affirmed that the AIADMK will spearhead the alliance and establish the next government, with me as the chief ministerial candidate. If this is the case, why does Stalin keep criticizing the BJP? It’s because he lacks legitimate issues to challenge us,” he commented.
Palaniswami also criticized Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, alleging that he is laying foundations for projects without securing funding. “The populace is furious and eager to oust this anti-people government. Announcements are made for publicity, not governance,” he claimed.
Condemning the occurrences of sexual assaults and murders in Tamil Nadu, the LoP asserted that there is “no safety for women and children” under the DMK administration. Referring to the recent gang rape of a college student in Coimbatore, he claimed that criminals “no longer fear law enforcement.”
“Despite the Supreme Court’s directive, a permanent DGP has yet to be appointed. The law and order situation has deteriorated,” he charged.
In response to the claims made by expelled AIADMK minister K.A. Sengottaiyan that Palaniswami’s family members meddled in party matters, the AIADMK leader dismissed it as “a false campaign.”
He further added that reports suggesting Sengottaiyan was acting on behalf of the BJP to reconcile the AIADMK factions were unfounded.
