New Delhi, Dec 2 (NationPress) The Lok Sabha has been adjourned for the second time on Tuesday, now until 2 p.m., as Opposition members have continued to refuse any discussions aside from the Special Intensive Review (SIR) of electoral rolls, engaging in persistent sloganeering within the House.
Opposition MPs moved into the well of the House, chanting 'SIR pe charcha karo' and 'Vote chor, gaddi chhod', demanding an immediate debate on the SIR issue despite repeated calls from the Chair for them to return to their seats.
Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, speaking amidst the uproar, stated, 'We have repeatedly urged to conduct discussions in a peaceful manner during the Winter Session. There are numerous issues in the country; we cannot disregard them. It is not appropriate for a few parties to disrupt the House.'
Commenting on the Opposition's reaction post its defeat in the Bihar Assembly elections, Rijiju noted, 'In a democracy, there are always wins and losses in elections. I too have lost elections. Atal Ji also faced losses, but venting electoral frustration in Parliament is inappropriate. Such actions undermine public trust.'
He further assured the Opposition that the Centre is 'ready to discuss every issue relating to the nation.'
'I urge you to refrain from continuing this disruptive behavior during House proceedings,' Rijiju added.
Despite his appeals, the sloganeering persisted, leading to another adjournment of the House until 2 p.m.
Members of the Opposition have been advocating for a comprehensive discussion regarding the ongoing SIR of electoral rolls across 12 states and union territories, alleging irregularities and demanding transparency.
Earlier in the day, as disruptions showed no signs of lessening, the House was adjourned until noon amid continued uproar.
The Winter Session had already commenced on a tumultuous note on Monday, with the Lok Sabha experiencing renewed protests over allegations of 'vote chori' in the recently conducted Bihar Assembly elections, as well as voiced concerns regarding the SIR process.
