Bhopal, March 24 (NationPress) To showcase the ancient Vedic approach to time measurement, the importance of Ayurveda, and the historical achievements of King Vikramaditya, Madhya Pradesh is preparing for a vibrant celebration of Gudi Padwa on March 30.

This declaration follows a cabinet decision spearheaded by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav. The state has already been observing Vikrmatosav from February 26 to June 30.

Ujjain, a city rich in history and formerly a key hub of timekeeping, will be at the forefront of this initiative.

“The Chief Minister highlighted that ancient Indian mathematicians achieved remarkable precision, measuring time to 1/34,000th of a second,” Urban Development and Housing Minister Kailash Vijayavargiya reiterated the government's dedication to presenting this extraordinary legacy to the world shortly after the cabinet meeting.

As part of the celebrations, the state will present a three-day spectacular theatrical show, known as Mahanatika, in New Delhi on April 12, 13, and 14. This grand performance will depict the life, accomplishments, and contributions of King Vikramaditya, the monarch credited with establishing the Vikrami calendar — a foundational element of Hindu tradition.

The show aims to reaffirm Ujjain's status as a global center for time measurement. Minister Vijayavargiya also emphasized traditional health practices, promoting the intake of jaggery, coriander, and neem to enhance immunity and support year-round wellness.

He also announced that all ministers will actively engage in the Gudi Padwa celebrations throughout the state.

Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, in his vision to restore Ujjain's significance, seeks to replace Greenwich with Ujjain as the global Prime Meridian. On several occasions, he has questioned the contemporary practice of starting a day at midnight, arguing that the ancient approach of commencing at sunrise is more natural and meaningful.

Yadav also criticized the disregard for Vedic methods in favor of Western time standards. In a symbolic act, the Vikramaditya Vedic Clock, inaugurated last year by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stands prominently in Jantar Mantar, Ujjain. This unique clock integrates ancient Panchang-based calculations with modern timekeeping, showcasing planetary positions, Muhurat timings, astrological insights, IST (Indian Standard Time), and GMT (Greenwich Mean Time).

Experts continue to emphasize Ujjain's role as a center of timekeeping, a reputation that has persisted for centuries. With the Tropic of Cancer passing through this historic city, its contributions to global timekeeping remain unmatched.
