Guna, Sep 20 (NationPress) The Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Jan Aushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP), initiated by the Central Government, is significantly impacting the accessibility of affordable and quality medicines for the economically disadvantaged in Madhya Pradesh’s Guna district. This scheme has established Jan Aushadhi Kendras near the district hospital, where generic medicines are available at reduced prices.
The primary objective of this initiative is to alleviate the financial strain on patients by offering essential medications at heavily subsidized rates. Residents of Guna have expressed their appreciation for the scheme, highlighting how it has eased the financial challenges associated with healthcare, particularly for families with multiple members suffering from chronic or serious health conditions.
Community members noted that the Kendras have been a blessing for low-income households, who previously spent a substantial part of their income on expensive medications. The introduction of generic drugs has considerably lightened the economic load on these families.
To date, over 850 Jan Aushadhi Kendras have been established nationwide, with government plans to expand this network to 25,000. This initiative not only enhances access to affordable medicines but also fosters job creation.
A beneficiary shared with IANS, 'This is a commendable scheme by the central government aimed at uplifting the poor. My father has high blood pressure, and I am also a patient. This program provides us with affordable medicines, and I am grateful to the government for it.'
Another beneficiary remarked, 'This scheme is fantastic. I’m experiencing a 90 percent benefit. The medicines are available at remarkably low prices. I am thankful to PM Modi for this initiative.'
A third beneficiary added, 'This initiative by PM Modi is a true blessing for the underprivileged. I’m availing 100 percent benefit through these low-cost medicines.'
The Centre introduced the PMBJP scheme to ensure the availability of quality generic medicines at affordable prices for everyone. Under this initiative, dedicated outlets known as Jan Aushadhi Kendras are set up across the nation to provide medications that are approximately 50-80 percent cheaper than branded alternatives, translating to savings of around Rs 38,000 crore for citizens compared to branded medicine prices. The scheme includes a diverse range of 2,110 medicines and 315 surgical products, covering key therapeutic categories such as cardiovascular, anti-cancer, anti-diabetic, anti-infectives, anti-allergic, gastrointestinal medications, and nutraceuticals.
