Kolkata, Jan 25 (NationPress) A name from Maharashtra's BJP district council candidate has surfaced on the voter list for Ward No. 12 of Dubrajpur Municipality, located in West Bengal's Birbhum district. District officials have confirmed that this BJP leader has received a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) hearing notice.

This situation has led to rising political tensions in the region as of Sunday.

The BJP leader, Ujjwala Burungle, is reported to reside in Nashik, Maharashtra. Her name is already present on the voter list in Nasik, where she was a candidate for the 2026 District Council elections. Interestingly, her name has also appeared on the West Bengal voter list for 2025.

Reports indicate that she submitted an enumeration form during the SIR process, triggering a hearing notice due to inconsistencies in her voter registration details. She is listed under Ward No. 12 of Dubrajpur Municipality in Birbhum.

In response to the development, the Trinamool Congress has accused the BJP of adding fictitious names to the voter list in West Bengal, alleging this is an attempt to gain an electoral edge in the forthcoming Assembly polls.

The Trinamool has asserted that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has consistently raised this issue, and it appears to be substantiated now.

"The BJP is trying to include illegal voters in West Bengal's electoral lists. This incident is a testament to that. We will urge the Election Commission to take action and investigate the matter," stated a local leader from Trinamool.

On the contrary, Anup Saha, the BJP MLA from Dubrajpur Assembly constituency, remarked, "The Election Commission will undoubtedly probe this issue. The presence of her name on voter lists in two different places warrants scrutiny. We will also request the poll panel to investigate."

Reportedly, Ujjwala Burungle is a resident of Solapur, Maharashtra. Her husband moved to Dubrajpur in Birbhum 17 years ago for business in gold trading. His name is Appa Shankar Burungle, which explains how her name became registered in West Bengal's electoral rolls.
