Mumbai, July 28 (NationPress) In a decisive effort to curb the spread of confidential information and misinformation, the Maharashtra government unveiled new regulations on Monday regarding social media usage for government employees and officers.
As per the decision issued by the government, the Maharashtra Civil Services (Conduct) Rules, 1979 will be applicable to social media activities. Employees breaching these guidelines will face disciplinary actions under the Maharashtra Civil Services (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1979.
These newly established guidelines extend to state government officials, local self-governing bodies, boards, corporations, public undertakings, and individuals employed on a contract or deputation basis. Any negative commentary on current or recent policies of the government or any Indian government is strictly prohibited.
Social media usage must be performed with a sense of responsibility and awareness. Personal and professional social media accounts must remain distinct. Accessing websites or applications banned by the central or state authorities is forbidden. Only sanctioned media channels should be utilized to promote government programs and initiatives. Messaging services like WhatsApp and Telegram may be used for office coordination, as stated in the guidelines.
According to these directives, government employees and officials may share success stories of government initiatives on social media; however, they must refrain from self-promotion. Uploading images or videos of government insignia, logos, uniforms, or properties on personal accounts is not allowed. Sharing or forwarding offensive, hateful, or discriminatory content is strictly forbidden.
Government officials are also prohibited from posting any confidential documents on social media without proper authorization. Following a transfer, the official social media account must be appropriately reassigned.
The government has emphasized that disciplinary measures will be enforced against those who violate these guidelines. These regulations have been formulated to promote responsible social media usage in today’s digital landscape while safeguarding the integrity of the government system.
