Mumbai, April 1 (NationPress) The Maharashtra Minister of Cultural Affairs, Ashish Shelar, revealed on Tuesday that the state government plans to roll out a comprehensive theatre policy within a span of two months.

“Maharashtra is a state rich in culture, where theatre plays a vital role in artistic expression. The state has consistently led the way in fostering theatre culture. With this in mind, a detailed theatre policy will be unveiled in the coming two months, which will focus on theatre infrastructure, facilities for both artists and audience members,” he remarked.

He added that in the future, all theatre constructions across the state will comply with the guidelines set forth by this policy. He made these statements during the inauguration of the Raje Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Theatre in Deoli, an event organized by the Deoli Municipal Council from Wardha district.

“Maharashtra boasts a rich historical legacy of artistic and cultural heritage dating back to 1823. The state government is devoted to preserving this legacy while also concentrating on various welfare initiatives related to infrastructure, health, education, and women's welfare. The government is also committed to uplifting artists and their talents to ensure their economic stability,” the minister stated.

Additionally, the state government will soon establish a committee dedicated to promoting research and development as well as further advancing the Maratha language, especially following the Centre’s designation of the language as Classical.

The Minister of Marathi Language, Uday Samant, confirmed that the Centre has already issued a notification regarding its decision to grant Classical Status to the Marathi language.

Samant mentioned that Marathi books receive awards. However, when purchasing a book, readers often consider its cover first. Therefore, he has directed the team to propose awards for the best cover designs of Marathi books as well.

Samant also indicated that all regional offices of the Marathi Language Department are undergoing renovations, and efforts are underway to establish a Marathi Language Bhavan in every district.

Funding will be allocated for the promotion of the Marathi language in villages located in border regions.
