Kolkata, Nov 25 (NationPress) In a bid to sustain her party's resistance against the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR), Trinamool Congress leader and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is set to address a rally opposing the electoral body's initiative at Bangaon in the North 24 Parganas district this Tuesday afternoon.

According to the itinerary, she will initially speak at a rally in Trikon Park in Bangaon later in the day. Following her address, she will lead a protest march in the area.

This marks the second rally against the SIR that the Chief Minister will spearhead.

The inaugural rally occurred in Kolkata on November 4.

The Chief Minister's rally and protest come just a day after Trinamool Congress general secretary and Lok Sabha member Abhishek Banerjee detailed strategies to escalate the anti-SIR movement to the national capital, New Delhi.

A 10-member delegation of Trinamool Congress members from both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha has been formed to lead the anti-SIR initiative in New Delhi and to engage with senior officials at the Election Commission of India headquarters.

Party sources have indicated that Bangaon was selected for the anti-SIR rally and protest due to the significant presence of the Matua community in the region.

The Trinamool Congress has already initiated campaigns asserting that the SIR could lead to the exclusion of individuals from the Matua community.

The Matuas are a Hindu demographic belonging to the backward class, having migrated as refugees from neighboring Bangladesh and settling in various districts across West Bengal, particularly those bordering the neighboring country. Their main concentrations can be found in the Nadia and North 24 Parganas districts.

Meanwhile, the state BJP leadership has reassured the Matua community that, apart from illegal Bangladeshi and Rohingya infiltrators who may have registered on the voter list, no one else should be concerned about the revision exercise.
