Imphal, July 13 (NationPress) Manipur has confirmed five additional Covid-19 cases on Sunday, increasing the state's cumulative infection count to 323 since June 1, according to officials.
A senior official from the Health and Family Welfare Department shared insights from the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP), revealing that the most recent cases emerged from 24 samples tested, resulting in a daily positivity rate of 20.8 per cent, a decline from 32.5 per cent recorded on June 26. The Imphal West District remains the area with the highest number of active cases at 210, followed by Imphal East with 71, Bishnupur with 23, and Thoubal with 13. The districts of Chandel, Kakching, and Tengnoupal each reported two cases. Notably, except for the tribal-dominated districts of Tengnoupal and Chandel, the other five districts are located in the densely populated Imphal Valley region.
The current active case count has decreased to 25, with the majority of patients in isolation.
In a positive development, the recovery trend continues, with 298 recoveries reported thus far, leading to a recovery rate of 92.26 per cent. Fortunately, there have been no reported COVID-19-related fatalities in the state to date.
Chambo Gonmei, the Health Services Director of Manipur, noted that the first Covid case in this wave was detected on June 9, involving a 23-year-old woman from Bishnupur district.
In light of the infection's spread in other regions, the Health Services Director has urged the community to remain vigilant. Previously, Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla convened a review meeting at the Raj Bhavan, emphasizing the need for proactive strategies, robust medical infrastructure, and community awareness to prepare for any potential rise in Covid-19 cases.
The review was conducted following recent guidelines from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, aimed at enhancing readiness in light of concerns about a possible resurgence of Covid-19.
