Raipur, Oct 18 (NationPress) In an ongoing trend of defections from the insurgency, Geeta, also known as Kamli Salam, a female Maoist commander operating in Chhattisgarh's Kondagaon district, surrendered to the police on Saturday.

This decision follows just a day after the most significant mass surrender in the state's history, where 210 Naxalites, including high-ranking leaders, laid down their arms in Jagdalpur, signaling a profound change in the region's long-standing conflict.

Geeta, who held the position of Maoists Tailor Team Commander within the East Bastar Division, had a bounty of Rs 5 lakh placed on her by the Chhattisgarh government.

She turned herself in to Superintendent of Police Akshay Kumar, expressing her disillusionment with the movement and her motivation drawn from the recent surge in surrenders.

According to police reports, Geeta was swayed by intensified “anti-Naxal” operations, escalating internal strife, and the symbolic act of rebels embracing the Indian Constitution during Friday's ceremony in Jagdalpur.

The mass surrender event saw 210 Maoists, including a Central Committee member and four leaders from the Dandakaranya Special Zonal Committee, hand over 153 weapons, including AK-47s and grenade launchers.

Attended by Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, this event was celebrated as proof of the government's strategy focusing on trust, dialogue, and development over violence. Geeta's surrender adds to this momentum.

Under the Chhattisgarh Naxalism Eradication Policy, she has received an immediate incentive of Rs 50,000, with additional rehabilitation benefits on the way.

Officials noted that her reintegration will follow the state's extensive framework aimed at restoring the lives of those affected by extremism. Her return to mainstream society symbolizes a larger unraveling within the Maoist ranks.

With 238 rebels having surrendered in the last three days, including the mass defection on Friday, the Bastar region is experiencing a unique moment of optimism.

Security forces believe this trend could signify a pivotal moment in the battle against Left-Wing Extremism.
