Shillong, Oct 28 (NationPress) In a significant political shift in Meghalaya, Zenith Sangma, the former minister and vice-president of the Trinamool Congress, tendered his resignation from the party and its primary membership on Tuesday, marking the end of a three-year association with the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC).
In his resignation letter directed to the party's leadership, Sangma articulated that the choice was made “after much contemplation and reflection,” characterizing it as a challenging yet essential move to pursue a new political path that resonates with his personal vision and the expectations of the community he serves.
“This decision was not made lightly. My journey with the AITC has been filled with priceless experiences, invaluable lessons, and cherished memories. I will forever be thankful for the support, trust, and camaraderie I received from my colleagues, workers, and well-wishers throughout my time with the party,” Sangma noted in his correspondence.
The former minister, who originates from Garo Hills and is the younger sibling of Opposition Leader Mukul Sangma, extended his thanks to both the national leadership of the AITC and its Meghalaya branch for the opportunities provided to him.
“Every chapter in life serves its time and purpose. I believe today is the appropriate time for me to advance and commence a new phase—one that aligns more closely with my vision and the hopes I harbor for the people I represent,” he expressed.
Zenith Sangma, who initiated his political journey with the Indian National Congress, switched to TMC alongside Mukul Sangma and various other legislators in 2021 after departing from Congress.
His departure coincides with a period when the Meghalaya chapter of the Trinamool Congress has been struggling with internal conflicts and a gradual decline of its organizational foundation across numerous districts. Political analysts speculate that Sangma may be on the verge of returning to Congress, his previous party, although neither he nor the Congress leadership has officially confirmed this.
Meanwhile, the Meghalaya Trinamool Congress has chosen not to issue any formal comment regarding his resignation.
