Shillong, April 29 (NationPress) In a groundbreaking initiative towards linguistic inclusion and technological progress, the Meghalaya government has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Digital India Bhashini Division of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY). This agreement aims to launch and integrate the Garo and Khasi languages into the BHASHINI platform, officials announced on Tuesday.
The signing ceremony was attended by Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma and Minister of Art and Culture Paul Lyngdoh, along with esteemed representatives from the Khasi Literature Society and A'chik Literature Society.
BHASHINI, a flagship initiative under the Digital India programme, aims to utilize advanced natural language technologies to create a diverse and inclusive ecosystem that transcends language barriers.
With Garo and Khasi now included, Meghalaya joins a select number of states making their indigenous languages digitally accessible nationwide, complementing 22 already implemented languages.

As part of the initial rollout, a State Language Mission for Bhashini has been established under Chief Secretary D.P. Wahlang.
