Bhopal, Sep 12 (NationPress) Former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Digvijaya Singh, recently convened a private meeting with senior Congress leader Kamal Nath amid ongoing discussions surrounding their past conflicts related to the 2020 collapse of the Congress government in the state.
“Kamal Nath ji and I have enjoyed nearly 50 years of familial connection. Our political paths have had their share of highs and lows, which is a normal occurrence. Throughout our careers, we have remained united in the Congress party, fighting our ideological battles together, and we will persist in doing so,” the former Chief Minister shared on X.
He pointed out that while there have been minor differences, there has never been a rift of the heart.
“We met yesterday. Both of us have been afforded significant opportunities by the Congress leadership and have always been embraced by the public. Moving forward, we will continue to dedicate ourselves to the community under the Congress party's guidance,” he added.
As of now, Kamal Nath has not commented on his meeting with Digvijaya Singh.
In a previous interview, Digvijaya Singh claimed that Jyotiraditya Scindia, currently with the BJP and serving as a Union Minister, had personal grievances with then Chief Minister Kamal Nath, which contributed to the downfall of the Congress government.
“I often face blame for the fall of the Congress government in 2020, but the reality is that I continually endeavored to preserve the government. I had even issued timely warnings about the potential for such a crisis. This was not an ideological conflict but rather a clash of personalities (between Nath and Scindia),” Digvijaya Singh stated.
In response to Digvijaya Singh's remarks, Kamal Nath remarked, “I want to stress that there is no advantage in rehashing old matters. However, it’s accurate that, aside from personal ambitions, Jyotiraditya Scindia felt that the government was being run by Digvijaya Singh. In that resentment, he took away the Congress MLAs and toppled our government.”
It’s important to note that the Congress party regained power in Madhya Pradesh after a 15-year hiatus under the leadership of former Union minister and then state party chief Kamal Nath in December 2018.
The government, which depended on the backing of seven MLAs - four independents, two from the BSP, and one from the SP - lasted 15 months before 22 Congress legislators loyal to Jyotiraditya Scindia resigned from the party and the Vidhan Sabha to join the BJP.
