Mizoram: International Paragliding Accuracy Championship and Air Sports Festival Wraps Up

Aizawl, Dec 14 (NationPress) The grand finale of the International Paragliding Accuracy Championship and Air Sports Festival 2024 took place on Saturday in Mizoram’s Serchhip district.
The championship featured 30 athletes from six countries -- India, Korea, Kazakhstan, Spain, Indonesia, and Nepal -- vying for top honors at the event.
Officials indicated that the International Paragliding Championship and Air Sports Festival commenced on Tuesday in central Mizoram's Serchhip district to promote adventure tourism.
The Chief Minister of Mizoram, Lalduhoma, attended the event as the Chief Guest, while Tourism Minister Lalrinpuii participated as the Guest of Honour.
The Chief Minister applauded the athletes' resolve and commitment, highlighting that Mizoram possesses the potential to become a prominent adventure tourism hub.
He noted that Serchhip town, with its breathtaking landscapes, is one of the finest spots in India for paragliding and other adventure sports.
Lalduhoma expressed appreciation for the contributions of local Mizo pilots and acknowledged the collaboration among the Mizoram Government, Mizoram Aero Sports Association (MASA), Federation of Aeronautique Internationale (FAI), and the residents of Serchhip in ensuring the championship's success.
Tourism Minister Lalrinpuii remarked that Mizoram is fortunate to have a leader like Lalduhoma, who is dedicated to advancing adventure tourism.
She also expressed her gratitude to the international participants, encouraging them to cherish their experiences in Mizoram as they head back home.
Winners in each category received Rs two lakh, while the second-place finisher took home Rs 1.50 lakh and the third-place winner received Rs one lakh.
Earlier in February 2020, Mizoram hosted the Paragliding Accuracy World Cup and Grand Festival at Serchhip town, located 90 km from the capital city of Aizawl.
Officials mentioned that events of this international caliber would significantly enhance tourism in the region and attract visitors from around the globe.
Such international competitions like the Paragliding Championship will provide the people of the state an opportunity to showcase the rich ethnicity and diversity of Mizoram to a worldwide audience.
