Bengaluru, Nov 12 (NationPress) Raju Kage, Congress MLA and President of the North-West Karnataka Road Transport Corporation, has formally addressed a letter to the Governor of Karnataka, Thawarchand Gehlot, on Wednesday, advocating for a distinct state comprising 15 districts in North Karnataka.
In his correspondence with the Governor, Kage articulated that the push for separate statehood for these districts is essential for enhanced administrative efficiency and thorough development.
The envisioned state would include the following 15 districts: Bidar, Kalaburagi, Vijayapura, Yadgir, Bagalkot, Belagavi, Dharwad, Gadag, Koppal, Raichur, Karwar, Haveri, Vijayanagara, Ballari, and Davanagere.
Kage pointed out that, since Karnataka's unification, this region has faced persistent injustice, discrimination, and neglect.
“Establishing another Kannada-speaking state would be a source of pride for us,” he proclaimed.
“North Karnataka is abundant in natural resources and represents a land of prosperity. This region has significantly contributed to the preservation of the Kannada language and the unification of Karnataka,” emphasized MLA Kage.
He expressed his complete support for the signature collection efforts conducted by representatives of the people under the North Karnataka Agitation Committee, which has amassed over one crore signatures and written statements.
Additionally, he mentioned that a memorandum on this matter was submitted to the Governor on January 5, 2024.
The committee also delivered memoranda to the President of India on January 3, 2024, and to the Prime Minister on January 10, 2024, he recalled.
“The citizens of this region are calling for a separate state to ensure the area's overall development. We kindly request you to consider this appeal and recommend to the Centre the establishment of a separate state for the North Karnataka region,” he concluded.
