What Happened During PM Modi's Visit to Ahmedabad Civil Hospital After the Air India Plane Crash?

New Delhi, June 13 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a visit to the Ahmedabad Civil Hospital on Friday to meet with individuals injured in the recent Air India plane crash.

The Prime Minister arrived in the city to assess the aftermath of the tragic incident, which occurred the previous day and resulted in the loss of 241 lives, including 12 crew members.

Upon landing, he proceeded directly to the crash site before heading to the hospital, where he conversed with the injured and their medical team.

Accompanying him were Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu, and Union Minister C.R. Paatil.

The ill-fated Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, which was carrying 242 people, tragically crashed shortly after take-off from Ahmedabad airport on Thursday afternoon.

The flight, operating as Flight AI-171 bound for London Gatwick, fell into a residential area near BJ Medical College, resulting in the loss of 241 individuals on board.

Among the passengers were 230 individuals, 10 crew members, and 2 pilots.

Remarkably, one passenger from seat No. 11A survived the crash, identified as a British national of Indian descent, who is currently receiving treatment at a local hospital.

Prime Minister Modi, who previously served as the Chief Minister of Gujarat for 12 years, expressed his condolences through his social media, stating, “The tragedy in Ahmedabad has left us stunned and heartbroken. My thoughts are with all those affected during this sorrowful time. I am in contact with the Ministers and officials aiding those impacted.”

This crash is being labeled as one of the most catastrophic aviation disasters in India's history. The government is conducting a thorough investigation into the tragedy. A team of forensic experts has arrived at the scene to start the evidence collection process as part of the ongoing inquiry.

Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu, who hurried to the crash site from Vijayawada on Thursday, stated that the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) has been assigned to lead the investigation.

“In light of the unfortunate incident in Ahmedabad, the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) has commenced a formal inquiry, adhering to the international protocols established by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). Moreover, the government is forming a high-level committee of specialists from various fields to delve into this matter comprehensively. The committee's goal is to enhance aviation safety and avert such incidents in the future,” the Minister announced via his social media.

The AAIB, functioning under the Ministry of Civil Aviation, is India’s official body for investigating serious aviation incidents and operates in compliance with global standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organisation.

The unfortunate Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner had issued a distress signal just before losing altitude, and investigators are now concentrating on the cockpit voice recorder and flight data recorder—commonly known as the black boxes—to piece together the final moments of the flight.
