Bhopal, February 11 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Mohan Yadav, declared on Monday that individuals who donate their organs prior to passing will receive state honors during their final ceremonies.
The Chief Minister stated that the remains and organs of deceased individuals will be transferred via air ambulance services with the consent of their families, and arrangements will be made to award them posthumously during national celebrations.
This announcement followed a visit to a patient who regained health after a successful heart transplant at AIIMS Bhopal on January 26.
The heart was taken from a 61-year-old brain-dead donor at NSCB Medical College in Jabalpur and successfully transplanted into a 53-year-old individual from Itarsi.
This marked the inaugural heart transplant at AIIMS Bhopal.
The procured heart was airlifted from Jabalpur to Raja Bhoj Airport in Bhopal and then transported to AIIMS Bhopal via a 'green corridor' set up by the state police.
After meeting with Dinesh Malviya (the heart recipient), the Chief Minister convened a discussion with AIIMS Bhopal director Ajay Singh to assess the healthcare services available to patients at the state's leading medical facility.
Later, during a press interaction, Chief Minister Yadav revealed that the state government is formulating a new guideline to promote organ and body donation.
"With the new policy, we will establish a state-level organization to advocate for body and organ donation. Donors will be honored by the state during their final rites, and there will also be provisions for posthumous awards for those who provide others with a new lease on life," the Chief Minister stated.
He also mentioned that the air ambulance service initiated last year is effectively facilitating the transfer of critical patients between cities in minimal time.
In locations lacking airstrips, helicopter services are being utilized for the evacuation of critical patients.
