Mumbai, Jan 18 (NationPress) Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced on Saturday that initiatives are in progress to establish an integrated ticketing system for urban transport in Mumbai.

Commuters will be able to access public transport options within a short walk of just 300 to 500 meters. This is a grand project aimed at delivering swift and convenient transport solutions across the city," he stated.

The integrated ticketing system was a topic of discussion at a meeting attended by Chief Minister Fadnavis and Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav on Saturday.

Present at the meeting were Pravin Singh Pardeshi, CEO of the Maharashtra Institution for Transformation (MITRA), Shrikar Pardeshi, Secretary to the Chief Minister's Office, along with officials from Central and Western Railway and Maha Mumbai Metro.

The Maharashtra government is taking significant steps towards realizing an integrated ticketing system for urban transport.

This initiative, spearheaded by MITRA, aims to enhance and simplify the ticketing experience across various public transport services. The Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) platform will provide technical support for this effort.

Fadnavis emphasized that the local railway serves as the lifeblood of Mumbai. The integrated service system will enhance connectivity for passengers, boost revenue, and increase usage of public transport.

Moreover, he noted that measures are being taken to incorporate taxis and other transport services into this system through advanced technological integration.

“This project will allow passengers to access all transport facilities via a single platform. It will streamline transit and reduce travel time, eliminating congestion in the transport system,” he remarked.

Union Minister Vaishnav indicated that there are currently 3,500 local services operational in Mumbai, with plans for the railways to invest Rs 17,107 crore to introduce an additional 300 local services in the near future.

He further stated that Rs 1.70 lakh crore has been invested in railway projects across Maharashtra, reiterating the commitment of both the central and state governments towards the comprehensive development of Mumbai.
