Nagas Grieve the Loss of a Visionary Leader: NSCN (IM) Remembers Dr. Singh

Kohima, Dec 27 (NationPress) The Isak-Muivah faction of the National Socialist Council of Nagalim (NSCN-IM) on Friday conveyed their heartfelt condolences on the passing of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who departed this life on Thursday at the AIIMS in Delhi at the age of 92.
The prominent Naga organization, NSCN-IM, stated that with his passing, the Nagas have lost a remarkable leader who consistently advocated for a Naga political solution that is both honourable and acceptable to both India and Nagalim.
“Singh was a Prime Minister of India whose commitment to the Naga political issue was exceptional,” the leading Naga group remarked, recalling his words during a meeting with the Naga delegation led by the Collective Leadership, NSCN (IM), on December 7, 2004, in New Delhi.
The Naga organization issued a statement recalling that the former Prime Minister had expressed, “We are equally eager to work towards mutually-acceptable, honourable solutions. We will sincerely address the issue. We will exert our best efforts to forge an honourable resolution. We will collaboratively seek every feasible path to achieve a solution. Yes, it must be reached through mutual dialogue and understanding so that an outcome acceptable to both parties can be realized.”
The NSCN (IM) noted that during his tenure as Prime Minister, he appointed three ministers to engage in discussions with the NSCN delegation.
He assured the Naga representatives on February 9, 2005, that “the framework of our relationship needs to be defined,” according to the statement.
It further stated that during his private discussions with the chief negotiator, Thuingaleng Muivah, at his official residence in New Delhi on June 24, 2005, he noted, “We are earnest, sincere, and confident that we could resolve this issue peacefully. Patience is required from your side. We have initiated every constructive measure. We do not underestimate your concerns. This is our commitment.”
“We recognize his courage and dedication in striving to resolve the Naga political dilemma. The memories and experiences shared with such an individual will leave a lasting legacy for the Nagas,” the NSCN (IM) stated.
“The history of the Indo-Naga relationship will forever record his reassuring statements and commitment,” the Naga group concluded.
