Bhubaneswar, Sep 4 (NationPress) The president of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and Leader of Opposition (LoP) Naveen Patnaik has named senior political figure and former minister Snehangini Chhuria as the new president of the party's women's wing.
According to an official notice signed by the BJD president, "Smt. Snehangini Chhuria is hereby appointed as President, Biju Mahila Janata Dal (BMJD) with immediate effect."
Chhuria, who has served two terms as an MLA from the Attabira Assembly constituency in Bargarh district, previously held a ministerial role in the government led by Patnaik.
On the same day, Patnaik also designated several prominent women leaders to key positions within the party's women’s affairs division. Notable appointments include Sumitra Jena, Rajashree Mallick, and Lekhasri Samantsinghar as Senior General Secretaries (women's affairs).
In addition, Sreemayee Mishra, Barsha Singh Bariha, Sulata Deo, Sulochana Das, and Sarmistha Sethi have been appointed as General Secretaries (women's affairs).
Patnaik further expanded the party's organizational structure by announcing the names of three additional district presidents, bringing the total to 31 out of 33 organizational districts in the state. Previously, 28 district presidents had been appointed, leaving Khurda and Balasore as the last two districts to be filled.
Recently, Patnaik also announced leadership changes in the party’s student and youth wings. Ipsita Sahu has been appointed as the new President of the Biju Chhatra Janata Dal (BCJD), the student faction of the party, while Chinmaya Sahu will lead the Biju Yuba Janata Dal (BYJD), the youth wing.
Moreover, Debesh Acharya has been designated as the Senior General Secretary of BCJD (Student Affairs), and Debi Ranjan Tripathy, Subhasis Khuntia, and Souvic Biswal have been appointed as General Secretaries for BCJD (student affairs).
For the BYJD, Byomakesh Ray has been appointed as the Senior General Secretary (Youth Affairs), with Rajendra Kumar Sahoo, Amaresh Patri, and Sanjit Mohanty taking on the roles of General Secretaries (Youth Affairs).
