New Delhi, Oct 10 (NationPress) The recently appointed US Ambassador to India, Sergio Gor, is on his way to India for a week-long visit commencing on October 9, as announced by the US Embassy and Consulates on Friday.
Ambassador Gor will be accompanied by Deputy Secretary for Management and Resources Michael J. Rigas. Their journey spans from October 9 to October 14, according to the US Embassy.
This marks Gor's inaugural visit as the newly appointed ambassador. At just thirty-eight, he is recognized as the youngest US ambassador to India. Gor has been a close advisor to US President Donald Trump and held the position of Director of the White House Presidential Personnel Office, responsible for vetting over 4,000 appointments in the Trump administration.
During the visit, Ambassador Gor and Deputy Secretary Rigas are set to engage with Indian government representatives to explore a multitude of bilateral matters.
The embassy stated, "The United States will persist in collaborating with India to fortify our strategic partnership, fostering a safer, stronger, and more prosperous Indo-Pacific region."
His visit is particularly noteworthy as he is seen as a close aide to President Trump and has previously expressed positive sentiments regarding India amidst ongoing discussions about contentious trade tariffs.
Last month, he conveyed to journalists that the Trump administration had extended an invitation for an Indian delegation to visit Washington, indicating that both sides are nearing a deal.
He has also been a proponent of enhancing defense relations with India.
Highlighting India's demographic potential, Gor mentioned that India's population of 1.4 billion and its rapidly expanding middle class present "immense opportunities for America, from artificial intelligence to pharmaceuticals to critical minerals, with vast potential for collaboration."
Recently, the then Ambassador-designate Sergio Gor engaged in discussions with Commerce Minister Goyal and US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer during trade talks in New York. However, talks regarding reducing US tariffs or waiving a 25 percent penalty faced obstacles due to the ongoing US government shutdown.
