New Delhi, June 22 (NationPress) The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has submitted a charge sheet against a vital associate of the designated terrorist Lakhbir Singh, also known as Landa, from the outlawed Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) group, along with notorious gangster Pavittar Batala, in connection with a Punjab terror conspiracy.
The individual, identified as Jatinder Singh alias Joti, hails from Gurdaspur district in Punjab.
He was apprehended by the NIA in Mumbai on December 23, 2024, under case number RC-21/2023/NIA/DLI.
During the investigation, the NIA uncovered that Jatinder was engaged in the illicit procurement and distribution of firearms from Madhya Pradesh to gangsters based in Punjab.
A press release from the agency on Sunday stated, "Jatinder Singh was instrumental in supplying weapons to the ground operatives of Batala, who is a close ally of the designated terrorist Lakhbir Singh @ Landa. Associates of Batala residing abroad were managing Jatinder’s operations within India. These weapons were utilized by Batala’s operatives in Punjab to further BKI’s criminal and terror activities."
The NIA's inquiries further revealed that Jatinder procured illegal firearms from a known arms dealer, Baljeet Singh alias Rana Bhai, in Madhya Pradesh. Baljeet has already been arrested and charged by the NIA. The accused employed virtual numbers and encrypted applications to escape detection.
When Jatinder was apprehended in 2024, the NIA indicated that this was a significant advancement in their mission to dismantle the terror-gangster nexus by curbing the smuggling of arms, ammunition, explosives, and other materials, while also disrupting funding for terrorist activities on Indian soil.
The NIA continues to investigate the roles of Landa and fellow designated terrorist Harwinder Singh, alias Rinda, along with their foreign associates, in this conspiracy.
The Union Home Ministry has designated Lakhbir Singh Landa, a 34-year-old gangster based in Canada, as a terrorist under the stringent Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
Landa was implicated in a rocket attack on the Punjab Police Intelligence Headquarters in Mohali in 2021, among other terror-related offenses, as per the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). He fled to Canada in 2017.
