New Delhi, May 9 (NationPress) The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has submitted a supplementary chargesheet including further accusations against four individuals involved in a case concerning the confiscation of an AK-47 rifle in Muzaffarpur, Bihar, as reported by an official on Friday.
The suspects, named Vikash Kumar, Satyam Kumar, Devmani Rai, and Ahmad Ansari, were initially charged by local authorities under the Arms Act.
In the supplementary charges submitted to the NIA Special Court in Patna on Thursday, the federal anti-terrorism agency included charges against all four under Section 120B of the Indian Penal Code; and Sections 13 and 18 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, in addition to the initial charges filed under Sections 25(1-AA), 26, and 35 of the Arms Act, 1959.
According to the NIA, which has been probing this case since May of last year, the accused engaged in a conspiracy and were actively participating in the unlawful procurement and trafficking of prohibited bore weapons to Maoists and other criminal factions.
They also collected and used funds to procure these arms as part of their conspiracy, which aimed to disrupt the unity, integrity, security, and sovereignty of the nation.
On May 7, 2024, the Muzaffarpur Rail Police discovered an AK-47 butt and a rifle lens from Vikash and Satyam.
During investigations, the duo revealed that they had supplied an AK-47 rifle and five live rounds to Devmani Rai, alias Anish, a resident of Mankauli under Fakuli Police Station, Muzaffarpur.
A subsequent search of Devmani’s residence led to the recovery of the rifle and the live rounds. All three, along with Ahmad Ansari, were arrested in connection with the case.
In December of last year, the NIA conducted raids at 17 locations in Bihar associated with an illegal arms trade case, recovering documents and cash during their ongoing investigations.
NIA teams executed search operations at the homes of suspects linked to the case in Muzaffarpur, Vaishali, and Saran districts, which are connected to the recovery of an assault rifle from the Fakuli Police Station in Muzaffarpur district.
